Out of learning to love myself, I learned how to love my husband better. Without that we would not still be together. It was the day that I realized that I hated myself and knew I needed to change that that our marriage started getting better. Before that I blamed my husband for everything that went wrong. He helped me learn about love by loving me and by having such a big heart that could weather my storms of rage. When I found myself, then the marriage had a chance of surviving and becoming so much better. Congratulations to you and Mary Beth. WAIT!! It can be fixed. It truly can. I found out last year that my husband of 20+ years had a 25 year old girlfriend. And not even someone who he adored, but someone to fill the void that we had allowed to grow between us. Now? Things are better than they ever we before the affair. Try looking up Mort Fertel. His marriage advice is making huge, huge differences in my life. And while my husband still doesn't consider me his best friend (we're all different in that respect) he now misses me when we're apart and takes the time to tell me I'm special. In fact, this weekend after I did my "I think a depression might be coming, I better buy 50lbs of flour and 20lbs of salt" crazy shopping, he looked at all of the stuff, laughed and said "baby, that's why I love you. Nobody thinks about things quite like you". Previously, he would have made a snide remark and I'd have been left feeling like I wasn't loved.
