The Power of Daily Actions
Principle 2: Do What You Can, When You Can
Do something each day to take action towards your goal. The important word here is “something” meaning some days will be more productive and filled with more actions than other days. This is OK and this is natural because life is dynamic and unpredictable.
You may have the intention to complete many actions on a given day, but the
random nature of daily life may get in the way and keep you from accomplishing what you had planned. When this happens, give yourself some grace and reframe the lack of productivity from not accomplishing to not being able to accomplish.
For example, each day my goal, my daily action, is to write new content for this website. However, with four children and a full-time job this isn’t always possible. On days that I’m not able to write, I at least jot down some thoughts or ideas for future articles on a yellow legal pad I keep by my desk at work.
This activity allows be to do “something” towards my goals. On days when this happens, I don’t beat myself up, or feel like I can’t accomplish my goals. I just do what I can, when I can. There is a lot of value in this principle for all of us.
